A Split Set Plate (also called a bearing plate) is used in combination with Split Set rock bolts (also known as friction bolts) in ground support systems. It is installed at the collar of the borehole and serves to transfer load from the surrounding rock to the bolt, providing surface support and preventing loose rock or strata from falling.
- Design: The most common designs are square or rectangular with a flat or domed profile to resist bending and conform to rock surfaces. Precisely cut central hole (typically 3639 mm diameter) to accommodate the split set bolt. Reinforcements such as ribs, corrugations, or flanges increase the load-bearing capacity. Rounded or beveled edges to prevent injury and reduce plate cracking under stress.

- Reinforcement in Fractured or Weak Rock:Distributes the load from the split set bolt across a broader area to prevent spalling and sloughing of rock.
- Support for Mesh and Liner Systems:Anchors steel mesh or shotcrete panels to rock surfaces for additional containment and safety.
