Paving Breakers & Jackhammers

Tamco/Toku TPB-90 pneumatic paving breaker

The TPB Series

Four weight classes on one platform. Every TPB breaker carries a rugged four-bolt back head, drop-forged alloy steel construction, forged latch retainers, replaceable chuck bushings, and a safety lever — so the only real decision is how much hammer the slab needs and which shank your steel already uses. Optional mufflers available on all four.

Chipping Hammers

Tamco/Toku TCH-series chipping hammer

TCH D-Handle & THA Gooseneck Series

Two handle families, eight stroke lengths. The TCH series uses a rock-solid four-bolt D-handle for maximum durability; the THA series and the compact AA-OS use a gooseneck handle with a saw-tooth connection to the cylinder for a more secure, positive fit. Both are designed to fire only when the chisel is against the work, which stops the dry-firing that kills chipping hammers. Every model is offered in .580 hex or .680 round shank.

Is Tamco the same as Toku?

They’re related but not identical. TOKU Pneumatic Tool Mfg. Co., Ltd. of Fukuoka, Japan manufactures the tools; TAMCO Tools LLC (Monongahela, PA) is the US distributor that imports and sells them, which is why every product on this page is labeled “Tamco/Toku.” If you have been quoted “Tamco” paving breakers or rock drills, these are the same tools.

Who makes Toku pneumatic tools?

Toku Pneumatic Tool Mfg. Co., Ltd. has manufactured pneumatic tools in Japan since 1937, starting with coal-mining equipment and shifting to civil engineering and construction tools in 1956. Toku is now a global manufacturer of pneumatic construction tools and hydraulic breakers; its US arm, Toku America Inc., was established in Cleveland, Ohio in 2010.

What air compressor do I need for a Toku tool?

Size the compressor to the tool’s CFM at 90 PSI. The paving breakers run 49 CFM (TPB-30) to 77 CFM (TPB-90); rock drills run 20 CFM (CP-9A) to 92 CFM (TS-55); chipping hammers and rivet busters need 23 to 36 CFM. Add roughly 25 percent headroom for hose losses, and more than one tool on the same compressor means adding their CFM together.

What’s the maximum air pressure for Toku pneumatic tools?

90 PSI across the entire Toku line. On the CP-9A and THD1100N rock drills the recommended operating range is 80-90 PSI specifically — exceeding 90 PSI can cause internal damage.

What’s the difference between the TCH and THA chipping hammer series?

TCH hammers use a D-handle with a four-bolt connection to the cylinder, which is the more durable arrangement. THA hammers (and the compact AA-OS) use a gooseneck handle with a saw-tooth connection for a secure positive fit and a couple of pounds less weight. Both fire only when the chisel is against the work surface, which prevents the dry-firing wear that destroys chipping hammers.

Which shank size should I order?

Order the shank your existing steel already uses — the tool and the steel have to match. Paving breakers come in 7/8 x 3-1/4, 1 x 4-1/4, 1-1/8 x 6, and 1-1/4 x 6 depending on model; rock drills in 7/8 x 3-1/4, 7/8 x 4-1/4, and 1 x 4-1/4; chipping hammers in .580 hex or .680 round. Every model above shows its available shank sizes in the buy box.

Which Toku rock drill should I use?

The CP-9A (8 lb) and THD1100N (11.4 lb) are lightweight D-handled drills for anchor holes and tight spaces — note the THD1100N must run Whirlibit-Speed bits only because of its rotation direction. The TJ-15 and TJ-20 are mid-size drills for road building, shaft sinking, and quarry work. The TS-55 is the flagship, built for larger-diameter bits and the deepest holes.

What does the Tamco/Toku line here NOT include?

Crowder Supply sells the pneumatic Toku line online. Toku’s boom-mounted hydraulic breakers are not sold here (though we can quote the demolition steel for them), and neither are TAMCO’s own house-brand American-made rivet busters or impact wrenches. A few catalog tools — the THR-3/THR-4 chipping hammers, the IR-pattern scalers, and the triple-piston scabbler — are available by quote. For hydraulic breaking machines, see our other brand pages.

Do you carry steel, chisels, and points for Toku tools?

Yes — paving breaker steel, rivet buster steel, chipping hammer steel, and drill steel are sold separately from the tools. See tool steel and drill steel & bits, or call 1-888-883-5144 with your shank size and we’ll match it.

Do you stock Tamco/Toku replacement parts?

Wear parts and rebuild components for Toku tools are handled through our parts desk rather than the online catalog. Call 1-888-883-5144 with the model and we’ll identify the part number.

How does Toku compare to APT or Atlas Copco?

All three build quality pneumatic construction tools with similar model lineups. Toku is Japanese-built and typically the value option against Atlas Copco’s European line; APT is US-made. Compare specs and pricing on our APT and Atlas Copco brand pages.

Does Crowder Supply ship Toku tools same day?

Yes — orders placed by 4 PM Eastern ship the same business day, and most items qualify for free UPS Ground shipping.
