Chipping Hammer Chisels
Swap the steel and a chipping hammer changes trades. The chisels, points, spades, and drivers here fit the .580 in. hex and .680 in. round chucks on the hammers in our chipping hammers range, so one tool chips concrete, scales weld slag and rust, strips tile, digs clay, and sets ground rod. Flat chisels run 1-1/2, 2, 2-1/2, and 3 in. wide at 12 in. long; a moil point concentrates the blow to start a break, and a 4-1/2 in. clay spade digs where the point only punches. For refinery and chemical-plant work there is a non-sparking chisel in non-ferrous alloy. New to sizing the hammer itself? Read the chipping hammer buyer’s guide, or see the full tool steel catalog.

Shank and Collar Fitment
Chipping steel is ordered by shank and collar, not by tool brand. These tools come with a round or hex shank and a round or oval collar. The hammers list both chuck options — the CP 4125 and the Tamco/Toku TCH-3 each show .580 in. hex or .680 in. round — so hex shank and oval collar steel goes in the .580 hex chuck, and round shank and round collar steel goes in the .680 round chuck. Check your hammer before ordering.
Chisel Width and Working End
Width sets how fast material comes off and how much control you keep: narrow tools cut where you aim them, wide tools clear area.
| Tool | Working end | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Narrow chisel | Narrow flat tip, 12 in. | Mortar joints, tight concrete repair, detail cuts |
| 1-1/2 in. chisel | 1-1/2 in. wide, 12 in. | Light to medium concrete, rust, tile, mortar |
| 2 in. chisel | 2 in. wide, 12 in. | Medium demolition and surface prep |
| 2-1/2 in. chisel | 2-1/2 in. wide, 12 in. | Heavy concrete, brick, and stone |
| 3 in. chisel | 3 in. wide, 12 in. | Thick concrete and large-area surface prep |
| Bushing tool | Multi-point head, one-piece steel | Texturing and leveling concrete for coatings |
| Ground rod driver | 5/8 in. rod | Grounding rod installation |
| Blank tool | Unshaped, 11 in. | Grind your own profile for a one-off job |
The moil point, clay spade, and non-sparking chisel round out the set above.
Chipping Steel or Breaker Steel
Chipping steel is small-shank and made for scaling, chipping, and surface work. Once the job turns to breaking slab, step up to jack hammer points and chisels in 7/8 to 1-1/4 in. hex, or to 11X jumbo rivet buster steel for structural work.
Common Questions
What bits fit a chipping hammer? Steel cut to your hammer’s chuck — hex shank with oval collar for .580 hex tools, round shank with round collar for .680 round tools. Chisels, moil points, spades, bushing tools, and ground rod drivers all come both ways.
What is a chipping chisel used for? Chipping tools break out concrete and mortar, clean weld slag and rust off steel, pull tile, and cut brick. Width picks the job: 1-1/2 in. for controlled work, 3 in. for clearing area fast.
Do you carry non-sparking chisels? Yes. The non-ferrous chisel is made to avoid sparking around flammable gas and chemicals, and comes with a round shank and round collar, 9 in. long, in 1-1/2 to 3 in. blade widths.
Can I buy a blank and grind my own? Yes — the 11 in. hammer blank is unshaped stock in the same shank and collar as the rest of the line, ready to grind into a gouge, scraper, or odd-width chisel.
How fast can you ship? Crowder Supply ships from Denver, and in-stock items ordered by 4 PM Eastern go out the same day. Stock moves, so call or email if you need a firm ship date on a specific chipping hammer chisels item before you order.
