It is forged from heat-treated steel, in .580 hex or .680 round shanks with oval or round collars and lengths from 9 to 24 in.
A wide blade spreads each blow across more edge, so it earns its keep on surface work and softer mass rather than deep breaking start holes with a moil point and come back wide to clean up.
