Bit shims are thin, flat spacers that restore the fit between a taper-socket drill bit and its steel, taking up the play that wear opens in the joint so alignment and energy transfer stay tight. Sized for 7/8 in. drill steel with 11-degree (11DG) or 12-degree (12DG) taper ends, they slip between bit and steel and hold a secure, movement-free fit during drilling.

A worn taper lets the bit wobble, bleeding impact energy and accelerating wear on both parts; an inexpensive shim postpones replacing either. Shims pair with the 11 and 12 degree taper ends on hex shanked steel and the taper-socket bits common on older sinker drills; once a taper is past saving, new rock drill bits and steel are the fix. High-carbon steel is standard, with tungsten carbide available where wear resistance matters most.

  • Fits 7/8 in. drill steel with 11-degree (11DG) or 12-degree (12DG) taper ends
  • Thin, flat profile slips between taper-socket bit and steel for a secure, movement-free fit
  • Compensates for wear on bit or steel, restoring alignment and proper fit
  • Improves energy transfer between steel and bit for more efficient drilling
  • Materials: high-carbon steel standard; tungsten carbide for high-wear applications
  • Stocked by Crowder Supply in Denver alongside taper steel and bits
