What is a needle scaler used for?
A needle scaler fires a bundle of hardened steel needles — 19.7 in. long on the APT M307 — at 4,000 blows per minute. Because each needle finds its own depth, the tool strips rust, paint, and scale from irregular surfaces flat tools cannot follow: welds, angle iron, castings, chain, stone, and brickwork. Shipyards, fab shops, and maintenance crews use them for surface prep before coating and for cleaning weld slag.
Should I buy the M307 scaler or the M317 kit?
The M307 ($249) is the scaler alone. The M317 ($384) is the same scaler plus three chisels and a carrying case — switching from needles to a chisel takes seconds, so one tool scales, chips, and cleans welds. If you ever chip gaskets, slag, or concrete spatter, the kit pays for itself.
What is a concrete scabbler?
A scabbler pounds carbide-tipped pistons against concrete to roughen or remove the surface — taking off coatings, laitance, and light build-up, and keying the slab for overlays and bonding.
