Paving Breakers & Jackhammers

Tamco/Toku TPB-90 pneumatic paving breaker

The TPB Series

Four weight classes on one platform. Every TPB breaker carries a rugged four-bolt back head, drop-forged alloy steel construction, forged latch retainers, replaceable chuck bushings, and a safety lever — so the only real decision is how much hammer the slab needs and which shank your steel already uses. Optional mufflers available on all four.

Tamco/Toku TPB-90 Paving Breaker

The heavy hitter: a 2-5/8 in. piston travelling a full 6 in. at 1,250 BPM. This is the tool for full-depth highway removal, mass concrete, and heavily reinforced structures — the jobs where a 60 lb breaker just polishes the surface. Budget 77 CFM of compressor.

Tamco/Toku TPB-30 Paving Breaker

The lightest breaker in the Toku line and the fastest-hitting — 1,550 blows per minute out of a 33 lb tool. At 49 CFM it runs off a small tow-behind compressor, which makes it the practical choice for sidewalk work, thin slabs, and anywhere a 60 or 90 would be more hammer than the concrete needs.

Tamco/Toku TPB-40 Paving Breaker

A long-stroke 40 lb breaker — 5-3/4 in. of piston travel, the longest stroke in the TPB line. It trades impact rate for energy per blow, so it drives deeper into thick concrete than its weight suggests while still running on a modest 56 CFM of air.

The everyday jobsite jackhammer. 66 lb and 1,400 BPM covers most street, driveway, and reinforced-slab demolition without the fatigue of running a 90 all day. Takes the same 6 in. collar steel as the TPB-90, so a crew running both only stocks one steel size.

Which One for the Job?

Match the tool to the work

Sidewalk & Thin Slab

4-6 in. residential slab, patios, curb work. The 30 lb class breaks it without cratering the sub-base.

TPB-30 →

Street, Driveway & Reinforced Slab

The everyday demolition job. 60 lb is the size most contractors settle on for all-day work.

TPB-60 →

Full-Depth Highway & Mass Concrete

Thick, heavily reinforced pours where a smaller breaker just polishes the surface.

TPB-90 →

Deep Drive in Thick Concrete

The 40 lb TPB-40’s 5-3/4 in. stroke puts more energy behind each blow than its weight suggests.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size air compressor do I need for a Toku paving breaker?

Match the compressor to the breaker’s CFM at 90 PSI: 49 CFM for the TPB-30, 56 for the TPB-40, 70 for the TPB-60 and 77 for the TPB-90. Add roughly 25 percent for hose losses, and add the tools together if more than one runs off the same machine. Our air compressor buyer’s guide walks through sizing.

What is the difference between a paving breaker and a jackhammer?

Nothing — they are the same tool. “Paving breaker” is the industry term, “jackhammer” is what most crews call it. You will also hear pavement breaker, concrete breaker and cement breaker for the same machine.

Which shank size should I order?

Order the shank your existing steel already uses. The TPB-30 comes in 7/8 x 3-1/4 or 1 x 4-1/4; the TPB-40 is 1 x 4-1/4 only; the TPB-60 and TPB-90 both take 1-1/8 x 6 or 1-1/4 x 6. Because the 60 and 90 share shank options, a crew running both only has to stock one steel size.

How heavy a breaker do I actually need?

Weight class tracks the concrete, not the operator. Up to about 6 in. of unreinforced slab, a 30 or 40 lb breaker is enough. For 6-12 in. and light rebar, use a 60. Past 12 in., or with heavy rebar, go to the 90 — a lighter tool will take longer and wear out faster.

Do Toku breakers come with a muffler?

Mufflers are optional on all four models and are not stocked online. Part numbers are 41020187C (TPB-30), 41023187C (TPB-40), 41024187C (TPB-60) and 41027187C (TPB-90) — call 1-888-883-5144 and we will add one to your order.

Is Tamco the same as Toku?

The tools are built by TOKU Pneumatic Tool Mfg. Co. in Japan; TAMCO Tools of Monongahela, PA is the US distributor. That is why they are listed as “Tamco/Toku.” If you were quoted Tamco paving breakers, these are the same tools. See the full Toku brand page.

What steel fits a Toku paving breaker?

Standard collar-retained paving breaker steel in the matching shank size — moil points, chisels, asphalt cutters, spades and clay spades. Shop paving breaker points and chisels, or call with your shank size and we will match it.

Do these ship the same day?

Yes — orders placed by 4 PM Eastern ship the same business day, and most items qualify for free UPS Ground shipping.
