The short version

A rivet buster is the horizontal demolition answer: breaker-class impact at half the weight, held at waist or chest height. Tight quarters take the 28-lb M633CN; bridge deck and general demo take the 30-lb M133CN — our best seller; maximum force is the 11-in.-stroke M1133CN Jumbo. The APT CN Rivet Buster Family

All three share deep case-hardened alloy cylinders, heavy-duty upper and lower sleeves, adjustable exhaust deflectors, and jumbo 11X extra-heavy-duty tool steel. Stroke length sets the personality: longer stroke, harder blow, slower rate. Then pick the handle — drop-forged D, pistol grip, or T — to match how you hold the work.

Rivet Buster Questions, Answered

What is a rivet buster?

A rivet buster is a long-stroke pneumatic hammer built for horizontal work: originally for cutting hot rivets on structural steel, today mostly for breaking bridge deck, walls, and reinforced concrete at waist-to-chest height. It delivers breaker-class impact energy at roughly half a breaker’s weight, which is why bridge crews — where deck weight rules apply — run them daily.

What is the difference between a rivet buster and a jackhammer?

Orientation and weight. A jackhammer (paving breaker) works straight down with its own 30–90 lb doing part of the work. A rivet buster is built to be held horizontally or at an angle: lighter (28–39 lb), longer stroke, and balanced for demolition you attack from the side — walls, deck edges, tanks, and overhead-adjacent work.

Which stroke length should I choose?

Stroke sets blow energy: the 6-in. M633CN trades some punch for compactness in tight quarters; the 8-in. M133CN is the do-most middle and our best seller; the 11-in. M1133CN Jumbo hits hardest at 850 BPM for reinforced concrete and tank cutting. When in doubt, the M133CN.

D handle, pistol grip, or T handle?

Pistol grip points the tool naturally at horizontal work; the D handle gives a closed grip for control at odd angles; the T handle adds leverage and a two-hand stance (and 6 lb) for downward or heavy pushing work. Same tool underneath — pick how you hold the job.

What air compressor do rivet busters need?

The M633CN and M133CN run on 42–46 CFM at 90 psi; the M1133CN wants 48–52. Any 110-CFM class towable compressor powers one with headroom — see the compressors we stock.

What steel do APT rivet busters use?

Jumbo 11X extra-heavy-duty shank steel — backout punches, chisels, and cutters. Call 1-888-883-5144 and we will pull the right steels with your tool so it all ships together.

Are these the same tools as APT 18768 or 18846?

Yes — old numbers map to current models: 18848/18849 = M633CN handles, 18757/18768/19444 = M133CN handles, 18846/18847/19060 = M1133CN handles. Order by either number.

How fast do APT rivet busters ship?

In-stock tools ship same day on orders placed by 4 PM Eastern, most free by UPS Ground from Denver.
