Chicago Pneumatic PAC Hydraulic Power Packs
Petrol hydraulic power packs from 9 to 18 HP, 5 to 10 GPM at 2,200 psi. The machine that drives a hydraulic breaker, pick hammer, post driver or rock drill on a site with no carrier and no compressor.
The short version
A power pack is the compressor of the hydraulic world. It is what you buy when you want hydraulic hand tools but do not have a skid steer, excavator or utility truck circuit to run them from. Size it on the thirstiest tool you will run, not the average one. The PAC P9 at a flat 5 GPM covers HTMA class I; the PAC P13 at 5 to 8 GPM covers class I and II and drives every hydraulic tool we list; the P18 and P18 Twin go to 10 GPM and run two tools at once. All four hold 2,200 psi.

The pack most crews end up on. 5 to 8 GPM at 2,200 psi covers HTMA class I and II, which means it runs every hydraulic tool on this site except the BRK 95 at full flow. Power on Demand idles the engine when the trigger is off, and it carries the engine-oil control the bigger packs drop.

The light pack. 9 HP and a flat 5 GPM at 2,200 psi, 160 lb with oil and the smallest footprint in the range at 23 x 20.7 x 26.8 in. HTMA class I only, so it drives the BRK 25, the BRK 40 and the PDR 30T. Two people can put it in a pickup bed.
Which Pack for Which Tool
Match the pack to the tool, not the other way round. A pack that cannot feed the tool leaves you with a slow, hot breaker; a pack that overfeeds it without a restrictor shortens the tool’s life.

Power on Demand is worth having. The P9 and P13 carry it: the engine drops to idle when the trigger is released and comes back up when you squeeze. It saves fuel, it saves noise, and on a day of intermittent work it saves a meaningful amount of engine wear. The P18 and P18 Twin do not have it, but they do have electric start.
The Twin runs two tools. The P18 Twin delivers 2 x 5 GPM or 1 x 10 GPM, so two operators can work off one machine on class I tools, or one operator can have the full 10 GPM for a BRK 95 at its top setting.

HTMA Class Explained
Two numbers decide whether a tool and a power source work together, and both are printed on every CP spec sheet.
HTMA class is the thing to get right. The Hydraulic Tool Manufacturers Association standardised circuit ratings so a tool from one maker runs off a pack from another. Class I is 5 GPM at 2,000 psi and class II is 8 GPM at 2,000 psi. Feed a class I tool from a class II circuit without a flow restrictor and you overspeed it; feed a class II tool from a class I circuit and it runs slow and hot. Every CP tool on this site states its class, and every CP pack states what it delivers.
Class I — 5 GPM at 2,000 psi
The light circuit. Covers the BRK 25 pick hammer, the BRK 40 breaker and the PDR 30T post driver. A PAC P9 delivers exactly this and nothing more, which is the point of it.
Class II — 8 GPM at 2,000 psi
The working circuit for most hydraulic hand tools. The BRK 55, BRK 70, BRK 95 and the PDR 75 and PDR 95 drivers all live here. A PAC P13 covers it and drops back to class I when you need it to.
Check the return line too
Flow and pressure get all the attention and return line restriction is what actually kills seals. The BRK 40 tolerates 145 psi on the return, the BRK 55 and BRK 70 tolerate 510, and the BRK 95 drops back to 300. Worth checking before you plumb into an existing circuit.

What does a hydraulic power pack do?
It converts a petrol engine into hydraulic flow and pressure so you can run hydraulic hand tools without a carrier machine. Think of it as the compressor of the hydraulic world: the pack sits on the ground, two hoses run to the tool, and the tool works. The CP PAC range delivers 5 to 10 GPM at 2,200 psi from 9 to 18 HP.
Which PAC pack do I need?
Size on the thirstiest tool you will run. The PAC P9 delivers a flat 5 GPM and covers HTMA class I: the BRK 25, the BRK 40 and the PDR 30T. The PAC P13 delivers 5 to 8 GPM and covers class I and II, which is every hydraulic tool we list including the BRK 95 at its 8 GPM setting. For a BRK 95 at its full 10 GPM, or for two operators off one machine, you want the P18 or P18 Twin.
What is Power on Demand?
An idle-down feature on the P9 and P13. When the tool trigger is released the engine drops to idle, and it comes back up when you squeeze. It saves fuel, cuts noise between blows, and reduces engine hours on work that is intermittent rather than continuous. The larger P18 and P18 Twin trade it for electric start.
Can I run two tools off one pack?
Only off the P18 Twin, which delivers 2 x 5 GPM specifically so two operators can work class I tools at once, or 1 x 10 GPM for a single tool at full output. The P9, P13 and standard P18 are single-tool machines.
Are hoses included?
No. Chicago Pneumatic supply the packs and the tools without hoses. The range uses flat-face HTMA quick-release couplings, which is the industry standard. Tell us the tool, the pack and how far you need to work from the machine and we will quote the hose set.
Do I need a pack at all if I have a skid steer?
Probably not. Any carrier with an auxiliary hydraulic circuit at the right flow, working pressure and return restriction will drive a CP hydraulic tool directly. A pack is for the jobs where the carrier cannot get to the work, or where there is no carrier at all.
