The short version

Pick a Texas Pneumatic breaker by the concrete, not by the price. The 30 lb TX30 is the light-duty and overhead choice at 1,550 BPM on 49 CFM. The 60 lb TX60 is the general-purpose size for slab, footing and curb work. The 90 lb TX90 is for mass concrete and heavily reinforced work at 1,250 BPM on 75 CFM. Every model comes in two chuck sizes so it takes the steel your fleet already runs. Shopping every brand? Rugged Thor-type tools, multiple chuck sizes

One design scaled across three weight classes. The lighter the tool the faster it cycles: 1,550 BPM on the 30 lb, 1,400 on the 60 lb, 1,250 on the 90 lb. Air demand climbs with size, so check the CFM column against your compressor before you pick the biggest one you can carry.

Which breaker for the job?

Overhead and light breakout

Sidewalk, thin slab, patching and overhead work where tool weight is fatigue. The 30 lb TX30 cycles fastest and runs on the least air.

TX30 details

Slab, curb and trench

The bread and butter of concrete demolition. The 60 lb TX60 takes 1-1/8 x 6 or 1-1/4 x 6 steel, the same shanks as most 60 lb tools on the market.

TX60 details

Mass and reinforced concrete

Foundations, piers, heavy pavement. The 90 lb TX90 puts the mass behind the blow, and needs 75 CFM to do it.

Paving breaker questions, answered

What size paving breaker do I need?

Match the tool to the concrete. Under about 4 in of unreinforced slab, a 30 lb class breaker is usually enough and it is far kinder to the operator. Ordinary slab, curb and footing work is 60 lb territory. Mass concrete, thick pavement and heavy rebar want 90 lb. Going heavier than the job needs costs you air, hose and operator endurance for no extra production. The paving breaker buyer’s guide works through this in detail.

How much compressor do these breakers need?

49 CFM for the TX30, 59 CFM for the TX60 and 75 CFM for the TX90, measured at 90 psi. Those are per-tool figures for continuous operation: two TX60s on one compressor is a 120 CFM demand before you allow for hose losses. An air manifold keeps the pressure steady when several tools share a supply.

What chuck sizes are available?

The TX30 comes in 7/8 x 3-1/4 or 1 x 4-1/4. The TX60 and TX90 come in 1-1/8 x 6 or 1-1/4 x 6. Those are the common North American shank sizes, so the tools take the steel most fleets already own. Pick the chuck that matches your existing points and chisels — the price is the same either way.

What is a Thor-type breaker?

Thor was the pattern that defined the American pneumatic paving breaker, and “Thor-type” describes a tool built to that layout and parts geometry. In practice it means familiar internals, widely available service parts and the handling most operators already know.

Does Texas Pneumatic make a 40 lb breaker?

Yes — the TX40PB sits between the TX30 and the TX60 in the factory line sheet. We list the 30, 60 and 90 lb models online because those are the ones that move; the 40 lb is a phone call and we quote it same day. Call 1-888-883-5144.

Are hydraulic or gas breakers available from Texas Pneumatic?

No. The TPT breaker range is pneumatic only. If you need a hydraulic breaker or a self-contained gas breaker, the all-brands paving breakers and jackhammers category carries Atlas Copco, Chicago Pneumatic and APT across those power sources and we stock all three.

What steel do I order with it?

At minimum a moil point and a flat chisel in the chuck size you chose. Asphalt cutters, spades and clay tools are worth adding if you dig as well as break. Browse tool steel or tell us the chuck size and the job and we will build the list.

How fast do they ship?

Stocked breakers ship the same day on orders placed by 4 PM Eastern, with free UPS Ground on most items. Call 1-888-883-5144 if you need to confirm stock before a start date.

Not sure whether you need 60 or 90 lb?

Tell us the concrete, the reinforcement and the compressor. We will tell you the class, the chuck and the steel to order with it.
