Vanair Hydraulic Driven Air Compressors
Run air off the hydraulic system your truck already has. The Reliant series (RC40, RC40-L, RS45, RS85-L) and the high-CFM ADHD make 30–185 CFM entirely from chassis hydraulics — no second engine, no extra fuel system, nothing new to maintain. The RC40 open-center with cold weather package is in stock at $7,126.
The short version
If your crane or service truck has 7–12 GPM to spare, a Reliant makes 30–45 CFM with no engine on deck: the RC40 (cast-iron recip, in stock at $7,126), the 245 lb aluminum RC40-L, or the 195 lb rotary-screw RS45 for tire and mechanic trucks. The RS85-L makes 60–85 CFM and the ADHD reaches 185 CFM — jackhammer class — both quoted. Reliant Abovedeck Hydraulic-Drive Compressors
Open- and closed-center systems both supported, cold weather packages across the line, and factory ratings published at 120°F hydraulic fluid — add a minimum of 400 PSI for continuous duty.

Vanair Reliant RC40 — Open Center with Cold Weather Package
Two-stage cast-iron reciprocating compressor, belt drive, making 30–40 CFM at up to 175 PSI from 9.5–12 GPM of hydraulic flow. The stocked unit is the open-center build with the factory cold weather package and hydraulic thermal valve. 3-year compressor warranty.
30–40 CFM @ up to 175 PSI · 9.5–12 GPM @ 1,775–2,275 PSI · 408 lb · 37 x 21 x 22 in.
Hydraulic Requirements by Model
The number that decides everything is your truck’s spare GPM. Factory figures at 120°F hydraulic fluid; add a minimum of 400 PSI for continuous ratings.

Hydraulic-Drive Compressor Questions
What is a hydraulically driven air compressor?
A compressor powered by your truck’s hydraulic system instead of its own engine: hydraulic flow from the chassis PTO spins the compressor, so there is no second engine, no separate fuel system and far less weight — the lightest Reliant, the RS45, is 195 lb. Crane trucks, service bodies and mechanics trucks with spare GPM get compressed air from equipment they already maintain.
What hydraulic supply does a Reliant need?
The RC40 needs 9.5 GPM (30 CFM) to 12 GPM (40 CFM) at 1,775–2,275 PSI; the aluminum RC40-L needs 8.25–10 GPM at 2,300–2,600 PSI; the RS45 runs on as little as 7 GPM; the RS85-L needs 14–19.9 GPM and the ADHD 27.6–44.2 GPM. Ratings assume 120°F hydraulic fluid — add a minimum of 400 PSI for continuous duty.
Open center or closed center?
Both. Every Reliant ships with an open- or closed-center hydraulic manifold block to match your truck’s system; the RC40-L adds a load-sense line for closed-center systems. The stocked RC40 is the open-center build. Tell us your crane or PTO setup and we will match it.
RC40 or RC40-L?
Same 30–40 CFM air envelope. The RC40 is the proven cast-iron, belt-drive unit at 408 lb and $7,126 in stock; the RC40-L is the aluminum direct-drive version at 245 lb — 40% lighter — with slightly lower flow demand but higher pressure demand, rated -20°F to +125°F. If deck weight is tight, quote the L.
Can a hydraulic compressor run a 90 lb jackhammer?
The ADHD can — Vanair factory-rates it for 90 lb jackhammers with 125–185 CFM on tap. The 30–45 CFM Reliants are sized for tire service, mechanics tools and lighter pneumatics, not sustained big-breaker work.
How fast do these ship?
The stocked RC40 ships within one business day; quoted Reliant and ADHD models ship within a few business days. We ship nationwide from our own stock and, on some lines, direct from the manufacturer — freight is quoted alongside the machine.
Have your GPM number handy?
Tell us the truck’s spare hydraulic flow and pressure, and we will match the Reliant or ADHD that fits — open or closed center.
