Pipe Line Blowers
A pipe line blower threads onto a line and pulls air through it, clearing standing water, debris and vapor out of pipe and conduit before a test or a return to service. The Texas Pneumatic TX-PLB-3 is a 3 in. unit built from a TX-3AM-P venturi air mover bolted to a 3 in. API flange with three 5/16-18 stainless socket head cap screws; the flange carries 3 in. female pipe thread on its inside diameter. A 3 in. MPT × 2 in. FPT bushing ships with it, so one blower serves 2 in. or 3 in. pipe. It runs on compressed air alone, with nothing rotating to service. Purging Pipe and Conduit
The unit is designed to pull air from a tank or a pipe line through a 2 or 3 in. pipe connection. Running it draws the standing air out of the line along with whatever is entrained in it, which is how crews dry a line after a hydrotest, clear vapor from a section ahead of hot work, and pull dust out of conduit before a cable pull. Because the venturi has no impeller, nothing in the flow path gets damaged when debris comes through with the air.
Threads, Flange and Bushing
The AM52 API flange bolts to the base of the air mover and presents 3 in. female pipe thread. The supplied TX-10046 bushing steps that down to 2 in. female pipe thread. Anything outside those two sizes needs a fitting ahead of it — see air hose fittings. The blower half of the assembly is the same TX-3AM-P sold in the 3 in. air mover line, so the behavior and the spare parts carry over.
Air Supply
Compressed air is the only power source. Match the air compressor to the air mover’s consumption at the inlet pressure you plan to run, then keep the supply clean and dry with moisture separation systems so you are not blowing oil and water back into a line you just purged. Common Questions
What size pipe does the blower fit? 3 in. as supplied, or 2 in. using the bushing that comes in the box. The flange has 3 in. female pipe threads and the TX-10046 bushing converts to 2 in. FPT.
What powers a pipe line blower? Compressed air, through a venturi air mover. There is no motor and no impeller — the jet of supply air induces a much larger flow of air out of the line, so maintenance is minimal.
Can it be used as a conduit blower? It is built to draw air out of a 2 or 3 in. pipe or tank connection, which clears dust and moisture from conduit of that size. Confirm the fitting on your run first.
