Miscellaneous
These are the service items that keep a drill string working: the compound on the threads, the gauges that tell you when a chuck or bit no longer fits, and the tools that get a plugged steel back in the hole. Jet Lube J75 is a lead-free, brushable NLGI 3 drill steel lubricant rated 0°F to 450°F, with pumpable J-89 for systems that meter it; Kopr-Kote puts micro-size copper flake and graphite in a water-resistant grease and contains no lead or zinc. Add shims for a worn taper seat and an unplugger for a jammed steel. The rest of the string is under drill steel & bits — carbide rock drill bits, rods, and thread adapters.

Thread Lubricant for Percussion Tools
Drill steel compound does two jobs: it stops threads galling and seizing under make-up pressure, and it plates the joint so metal never contacts metal on shanks, bits and couplings. J-75 is brushable and J-89 pumpable, so pick by how you apply it — a Jet Lube application brush at the collar, a pump on a rig.
Gauges, Shims and Recovery Tools
Fit is a wear item of its own. A chuck gauge tells you whether a worn breaker chuck still retains a 7/8 in. shank, shims take up the slop between a tapered bit and tired steel, and the unplugger clears rock, mud and clay out of a blow hole instead of scrapping the rod.
| Item | What it does | Spec |
|---|---|---|
| Chuck gauge | Checks chuck wear and tool retention | 7/8 in. hex or round shank |
| Bit shims | Restores the seat between bit and steel | 7/8 in. x 11° or 12° taper |
| Drill steel unplugger | Clears plugged blow holes | 8 ft, fully flighted, custom cut |
| Auger rod | Extends auger bits for holes and sampling | Threaded both ends to couple |
| Split Set test bell | Load-tests friction bolt installs | Tapered to the Split Set profile |

Underground Extras
Two items belong to ground support rather than the drill string. The test bell simulates installation loading so a crew can verify Split Set friction bolts are holding before the round advances, and the auger rod couples end to end to reach depth for post holes, soil sampling and shallow boreholes. Both sit alongside the rest of the mining line.
Common Questions
What lubricant goes on drill steel threads? A dedicated drill steel compound, not chassis grease. J-75 brushes on and J-89 pumps; both resist shock, galling and seizure and stay put in hot threads. Kopr-Kote is the copper-and-graphite anti-seize choice for rotary and impact drilling. Use it at every make-up on extension rods and couplings.
Do you stock bit stabilizers or slugger bits? Not in this group — it holds service items rather than cutting tools. Start with the rock drill bits buyer’s guide to pin down what you need, then tell us the thread or taper and we will point you at the right bit.
When do bit shims help? When a tapered bit no longer seats tight on the steel. The shim takes up that wear so energy still transfers cleanly, which buys life out of both parts. They are made for 7/8 in. 11° and 12° tapered steel, so confirm your taper against your shanked rods first.
