What Rock Drill Oil Has to Do
A rock drill oil is a percussion oil first. It has to hold a film on the piston and chuck through repeated hammer blows, resist wash-off from flushing air and water, and stop rust in a wet heading. The additive package does that: anti-wear agents for the sliding surfaces, corrosion inhibitors, and extreme-pressure additives that survive shock loading. Eco-friendly grades use vegetable base stocks where drilling runs near water.
Cold Weather and Anti-Icing
Compressed air carries moisture, and when it expands through a drill in winter that moisture freezes at the exhaust and the tool stalls. Anti-icing lube is a fully synthetic air-line oil that replaces standard oil in cold conditions and keeps drills, rivet busters, grinders and impact tools frost free down to -20°F. It needs no extra equipment and works in existing constant-feed lubricators.

What is rock drill oil? A heavy, tacky air-line lubricant made for percussion drills. It clings to the piston and chuck under hammer impact and carries anti-wear, anti-corrosion and extreme-pressure additives. Standard air tool oil is thinner and washes off a jackleg or sinker drill too quickly.
