Two handle families, eight stroke lengths. The TCH series uses a rock-solid four-bolt D-handle for maximum durability; the THA series and the compact AA-OS use a gooseneck handle with a saw-tooth connection to the cylinder for a more secure, positive fit. Both are designed to fire only when the chisel is against the work, which stops the dry-firing that kills chipping hammers. Every model is offered in .580 hex or .680 round shank.

What is a chipping hammer used for?
A chipping hammer is a light percussive air tool that drives a chisel to remove material from a surface — weld spatter and slag, rust and mill scale, casting flash, tile and mortar, and the top layer of concrete before an overlay. It is a surface tool, not a demolition tool; for breaking through concrete you want a paving breaker.
What is the difference between the TCH and THA series?
The TCH series uses a D-handle bolted to the cylinder with four bolts — the most durable arrangement, and the one to pick for heavy daily use. The THA series (and the compact AA-OS) uses a gooseneck handle with a saw-tooth connection that gives a secure positive fit in a lighter package. Compare like strokes: the THA-4B and TCH-4 both run about a 4 in. stroke, but the THA is roughly 2 lb lighter.
Should I order .580 hex or .680 round shank?
Order whichever your existing chisels use — the tool and the steel have to match. .580 hex with a round or oval collar is the most common in US fabrication shops; .680 round is also widely used. Both ship with a standard oval collar retainer and spring. Shop matching chipping hammer chisels.
Which stroke length do I need?
Short stroke means more blows per minute and gentler cutting — better for cleaning steel without damaging it. Long stroke means fewer, harder blows that dig into concrete. Roughly: 1-2 in. for welds and light surface work, 2-2.5 in. for general purpose, and 4 in. for concrete removal.
Why do these only fire when pressed against the work?
It is deliberate. Dry-firing — running the hammer with nothing under the chisel — is what wears out the piston and front head fastest. Toku’s design will not cycle until the chisel is loaded against the surface, which is a meaningful part of why these tools last.
What air compressor do I need?
Between 23 and 33 CFM at 90 PSI depending on the model, so a small portable or shop compressor covers most of the range. Add about 25 percent for hose losses.
Is Tamco the same as Toku?
