A man cooler is a high-velocity industrial fan aimed at people rather than at a process: it moves enough air across a work station to keep core temperature down in a foundry, boiler room or summer shop. Texas Pneumatic builds them in 18, 24, 36 and 48 in with heavy-gauge rolled and welded steel housings (no castings to crack), polymer blades as standard and solid aluminum optional, and heavy-duty casters on every unit. Man cooler questions, answered
What is a man cooler?
An industrial fan built to move a high-velocity stream of air across people rather than to ventilate a space. In a foundry, boiler room or summer shop the risk is heat stress on the operator, and moving air across skin is the fastest way to shed it. Man coolers are heavier and higher velocity than a comfort fan, and are built to survive a plant floor.
What is the difference between TEFC and explosion proof?
TEFC means totally enclosed, fan cooled — a sealed motor that keeps dust and moisture out, assembled with weatherproof junction boxes, cords and plugs. Explosion proof means the motor is rated NEMA Class 1 Division 1 Group D and Class II Groups E, F and G, and the unit is assembled with explosion-proof junction boxes, cords and plugs so it can be used where flammable vapours or combustible dust may be present. If your area is classified, you need the explosion-proof version — it is not a nice-to-have.
What voltages are available?
Standard motors are rated 115v or 230v single phase at 50/60 Hz, and on many units the voltage is changed with a single switch on the rear of the motor housing. Higher voltages and three-phase motors are also available. The 48 in units listed here are 220v three phase.
Can I wall mount one?
Yes. Heavy-duty casters are standard on every unit so they roll, but wall mounts and stands are available for all sizes. They are quote items rather than listed products — call 1-888-883-5144 and we will add the right one to the order.
Man cooler or air mover?
If you have power and want a lot of moving air at a work station, the man cooler is the cheaper way to get it and it does not consume compressor capacity. If the space is classified, confined, or has no power, a venturi air mover runs on shop air with no motor and no cord.
Do you have aluminum blades?
Polymer blades are standard. Solid aluminum fan blades are an option on all sizes — usually specified where radiant heat or solvent exposure would degrade a polymer blade. Ask when you order.
How do they ship?
By freight. These are large steel assemblies on casters and none of them go UPS. We quote freight with the order and can arrange liftgate delivery. Lead time on explosion-proof and three-phase configurations is usually longer than on stock TEFC units — call before you commit to a date.
