ATEX-Rated Vane Air Motors
A vane air motor turns compressed air into rotation with no electrics, no heat build-up and no damage from stalling — it holds stall torque indefinitely and picks back up when the load drops. CP lists 133 models, every one ATEX rated, drawing 7.6 to 72 CFM through 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8 in. inlets at 0.66 to 11.6 lb. On the M-series the speed suffix is the rated RPM, so you specify frame size first and speed second.
Where an Air Motor Beats an Electric Drive
Paint booths, grain handling, solvent rooms and gas plants are the usual reason. An air motor has no arcing contacts, which is why CP certifies the whole line for explosive atmospheres instead of selling an explosion-proof option. The stainless motor adds double Viton nose seals and a housing with limited retention areas, so contamination has nowhere to sit in food and chemical work. Feed them clean, dry air through a filter, regulator and lubricator, and spares are in air motor accessories.
Rivet Squeezers & Riveters
Two different jobs. The CP42 squeezers are compression tools — six models, silent and effectively vibration-free, with a choice of jaws that reach any rivet within 76 mm of an edge, built for aerospace metal structure repair. The CP988 series is the production riveter: high setting force, low kickback, a cold-insulating composite handle and a 360° swivel air connection. CP’s industrial riveting tools run 3.75 to 5.51 lb. Pneumatic Torque Wrenches
Where an impact wrench guesses, a torque wrench measures. The CP66 series is built for oil and gas, power generation and heavy industry bolting, at its most accurate run with the ATC pack and FRL unit. The BlueTork shuts the air off at a preset torque and holds up to four calibrated settings, which is why it turns up on truck and bus tire changing. CP lists that series at 664 ft-lb and 100 RPM on a 1 in. square drive, and its industrial torque-control tools from 959 to 3,020 ft-lb. Reaction bars and sockets are in bolting accessories.
Common Questions
What does ATEX rated actually mean? ATEX is the European standard for equipment run where flammable gas, vapor or dust can be present. CP rates its whole vane motor line to it. Confirm the zone and equipment category your site requires before ordering.
How much air will one of these motors take? CP’s published range is 7.6 to 72 CFM depending on frame and speed, so add the motor to whatever else is on the line before sizing the supply. Plumb it with swivels, hoses and valves rated for your working pressure.
Is a pneumatic torque wrench the same as a nutrunner? Close enough that CP files them together as pneumatic nutrunners. Both control final torque instead of hammering to it; nutrunners run down fast on smaller fasteners, torque wrenches turn slowly on large studs and flanges.
