Striking Bars & Shanked Rods

A striking bar takes the piston blow at the front of the drill and passes it into the drill steel, which makes it both the wear part and the part that has to match your machine exactly. Crowder Supply has machined striking bars and shank adapters from 8620 tooling steel in Denver for more than 15 years, in R32, T38, T45 and T51 for the rock drills and drifters in the field. Stocked bars cover the TEI TE360HT hammer in T38, X32, X38 and Titan 40, Epiroc 2560 and 3060 drifters in H55 right-hand thread, the COP 1028 in R32, and an 8-spline HV-32 shank adapter for Fletcher Mine Master and Roof Master bolters. For handheld work off a jackleg, hex shanked starter rods and shanked flushing rods put shank and rod in one bar. Couple them to extension rods for depth. Free UPS Ground shipping on the TEI, Epiroc and HV-32 bars.

Striking Bar or Shanked Rod?

A striking bar — striker bar, shank adapter, shank rod — is a separate piece between the drill and a threaded rod. The drill hits the bar, the bar drives the string, and you replace a bar instead of a drill front end. A shanked rod is one piece for shallow handheld holes; the flushing version takes 7/8 x 4-1/4 or 1 x 4-1/4 in. shanks, R25 male thread.

Common Questions

What is a striking bar? The sacrificial link between a rock drill or drifter and the drill steel, carrying piston energy into the string. It absorbs every blow, so treat it as a wear item and order by drill model and thread, not rod size.

How do I order the right shank rod? Three things settle it: drill manufacturer, drill or drifter model, and the thread on the steel it drives. Send those and we confirm the bar — the drill steel adapters buyer’s guide covers thread matching.

Do these bars have a flushing hole? Not all. The Epiroc 2560 and 3060 bars ship with none, and the 2560 uses a straight spline where the OEM standard is helical. Only the shanked flushing rods pass flush.

What are they made from? 8620 tooling steel, machined and heat treated in Denver to OEM specs. When factory lead times run long we make the bar in house, in the same shop that cuts the couplings and thread adapters.

Do you stock these? Most of the striking bars shanked rods range is stocked in Denver, and in-stock orders placed by 4 PM ET ship the same day. We don’t promise same-day on an item that isn’t on the shelf — check with us and we’ll tell you what’s here.
