Striking Bar FAQ

What’s the difference between a striking bar and a shank adapter?
They’re the same component under different names striking bar (or striker bar) is common on older pneumatic drifters, while shank adapter is the standard term on hydraulic drills. Either way, it’s the piece the piston strikes to drive energy into the drill string.

What do I need to know to order the right one?
Three things: your drill’s make and model, the thread on your drill steel (R32, T38, T45, T51 or a flushing variant like T38F), and for some drifters the bar length. If you’re unsure on thread, measure the OD at the threaded end or send a photo with your quote request.

Can I get a thread that isn’t standard for my drill?
Yes. Any thread can be machined on any striking bar offered, so if your operation standardizes on one steel thread across mixed drills, every bar can be built to match it.

My drill is discontinued can you still supply a bar for it?
Usually, yes. Bars are machined in-house for many drills whose OEMs no longer support them Gardner Denver, Joy/Cannon/Sullivan and Krupp/John Henry are common requests. Send the model and thread for confirmation.
