APT Questions, Answered

Where can I buy American Pneumatic Tools (APT)?

Right here — Crowder Supply is a stocking APT dealer based in Denver, Colorado, shipping nationwide. The paving breakers, rock drills, rivet busters, chipping hammers, tampers, and diggers on this page are in our warehouse with genuine APT parts and matching steel, and our product experts size tools to jobs by phone at 1-888-883-5144.

Are APT tools made in the USA?

APT — American Pneumatic Tools — is a California-based brand whose name has stood for pneumatic tool quality since 1938. Per APT, products and parts are made in various countries by its affiliates and trusted suppliers. What matters on the jobsite: the designs are the proven classics, genuine parts are readily available, and we stock both tools and parts in Denver.

Is this the same APT as APT cutting tools or inserts?

No — we stock American Pneumatic Tools, the air-tool maker. Carbide inserts, reamers, and machining cutters sold under similar names are different companies. If it runs on compressed air and breaks, drills, chips, or tamps, this is the right APT.

What do the old APT part numbers like 5235, 5240, or 18768 mean?

APT renumbered its catalog, but the old numbers still identify the same tools: 5199/5200 = M117, 17923 = M140, 5235/5236 = M160, 5239/5240 = M190, 5229–5234 = M155 rock drill options, 5214 = M131 tamper, 18757/18768/19444 = M133CN rivet buster handles. Order by either number — and our product pages list both.

What sizes of APT jackhammer are there?

Four classes: the 33-lb M117, 43-lb M140, 68-lb M160, and 90-lb M190 — each in your choice of chuck, with Airgo-Line® anti-vibration back heads available on the 140, 160, and 190. See the full paving breaker page for specs and prices.

What size air compressor do APT tools need?

At 90 psi: the M109 drill runs on 19–21 CFM, chipping hammers about 32–35, the M117 breaker 34–38, the M131 tamper 38–42, rivet busters 42–52, the M160 60–65, the M190 75–80, and the M155 rock drill 110–120. Size the compressor with headroom for hose length and altitude — we stock towable compressors to match.

What is the Airgo-Line?

Airgo-Line® is APT’s anti-vibration series: an ergonomic back head (interchangeable with the standard one) that cuts vibration to the operator’s hands and arms with no loss of breaking power. Available on the M140A, M160A, and M190A breakers and the M633CN rivet buster design.

Do you stock APT parts?

Yes — genuine APT chisel retainers, rubber bumpers, whip hose assemblies, repair kits, pistons, rifle bars, and handle parts are on our shelves. Call 1-888-883-5144 with the model and part number and parts ship same day.

Which APT rock drill should I get?

For anchor bolts and dowel holes, the 9-lb M109 or 19-lb M115 — both switch to percussion-only mode for light chipping. For production drilling, the 38-lb M137 or the 61-lb M155, each in wet or dry versions; the M155 adds a drilled-hole blow-out function and is our best-selling APT tool. All chucks take standard hex drill steel we stock.

How fast do APT tools ship?

In-stock tools ship same day on orders placed by 4 PM Eastern. Most items go free by UPS Ground, and everything ships from our Denver, Colorado warehouse.
