Tool Steel for Jack Hammers, Breakers & Chipping Hammers (Page 2 of 4)

Keep the right working steel on the truck for every demolition tool you run. Moil points, chisels, spades, blades, and drivers fit paving breakers, chipping hammers, and rivet busters, grouped by the tool and shank they match so the right point is easy to find. Common shank sizes — 7/8 in. x 3-1/4 in., 1 in. x 4-1/4 in., and 1-1/4 in. x 6 in. for breakers, plus 0.580 in. hex for chipping hammers — are all stocked.

Steel by the Tool

Match the steel to the job: paving breaker points & chisels and blade tools for breaking and cutting, driving tools to set posts, pipe, and ground rods, chipping hammer chisels for lighter work, rivet buster chisels for shearing rivets, and electric hammer tools for corded hammers. For rock-drilling steel, see drill steel & bits.

Jack Hammer Bit & Breaker Steel Shank Sizes

Every point, chisel, blade, and driver fits a specific shank. Match the steel to your tool’s chuck before ordering — the size is stamped on most tools and listed on every product page. Several light breakers, including the APT 117 and Tamco TPB-30, are sold in both 7/8 in. x 3-1/4 in. and 1 in. x 4-1/4 in. chucks, so confirm which chuck your tool has before choosing steel.

Driving Tools and Steel Care

Breaker-shank driving tools turn a jack hammer into a setting tool: ground rod drivers, pin drivers, railroad spike drivers, pipe drivers, and dirt tamps all run in standard 1 in. x 4-1/4 in. and 1-1/4 in. x 6 in. chucks. To extend steel and front-end life, coat shanks with Breakerolene chisel paste applied with a chisel paste grease gun.
